Private Residence
Lafayette, LA
July 7, 2007
Summary of Investigation – This was an investigation of a private residence. The residents spoke of hearing whispers, and seeing apparitions throughout the home; particularly in the bedroom, bathroom and child’s room. This is where we focused our investigation, and set up the IR cameras. There were a few personal experiences, including hearing whispered voices, a cold spot and the feeling of being “touched.”

Additional services provided to client – We informed the client that nothing unusual was found within our equipment recordings. Because of this we also gave explanations for what could be causing the things they are experiencing, as explained below:

The creaking on the TV.

It was explained to the client that all electronics settle and make this noise, even if you don't use it for a while.

2. They mentioned that most of the activity occurs when falling asleep or in that half asleep/half awake stage.

It was explained that there are a couple of explanations for what this could be. First being that when they are just falling asleep the subconscious becomes a lot more active. A person may begin to think of things he/she may have pushed to the back of their mind. They are also borderline dreaming/awake therefore what they see/hear may actually be part of the beginnings of a dream. However it will seem very real since they are in-between.

Another related explanation is sleep paralysis. I explained that this is a very common occurrence and is often mistaken for "paranormal activity". I copied/pasted the wikipedia explanation for her to read, I have also done this here:

”Sleep paralysis is a condition characterized by temporary paralysis of the body shortly after waking up (known as hypnopompic paralysis) or, less often, shortly before falling asleep (known as hypnagogic paralysis).

Physiologically, it is closely related to the paralysis that occurs as a natural part of REM (rapid eye movement) sleep, which is known as REM atonia. Sleep paralysis occurs when the brain awakes from a REM state, but the bodily paralysis persists. This leaves the person fully aware, but unable to move. In addition, the state may be accompanied by hypnagogic hallucinations.

More often than not, sleep paralysis is believed by the person affected by it to be no more than a dream. This explains many dream recountings which describe the person lying frozen and unable to move. The hallucinatory element to sleep paralysis makes it even more likely that someone will interpret the experience as a dream, since completely fanciful, or dream-like, objects may appear in the room alongside one's normal vision."

I further explained that this is not to say that there is absolutely nothing paranormal going on in their home. However, they are logical explanations of what could be occurring. Investigation Conclusion - Inconclusive Follow Up Plans - The client plans to try to capture evidence using their own camcorders and audio recorders. We will keep in touch with the client. They have been informed that should they need any assistance in the future we would be happy to help them out any way we can.
